Saudi VAT calculator: add or remove 15% VAT in riyals
Enter an amount in Saudi riyals and choose: add VAT to a net price, or take it out of a VAT-inclusive total. You get the net amount, the VAT and the gross total to the halala, at the 15% standard rate, using the formulas published by ZATCA, the Saudi Zakat, Tax and Customs Authority.

In brief
- VAT in Saudi Arabia is 15% of the price excluding VAT. The rate has applied since 1 July 2020; it was 5% before.
- To add VAT: VAT = net × 0.15 and gross = net × 1.15. SAR 1,000 net becomes SAR 1,150, of which SAR 150 is VAT.
- To remove VAT from a gross amount: VAT = gross × 15/115 and net = gross ÷ 1.15. ZATCA's own example: SAR 200 including VAT contains SAR 26.09 of VAT and SAR 173.91 net.
- Not every supply is taxed at 15%: exports outside the GCC, international transport and qualifying medicines are zero-rated, while margin-based financial services and residential rent are exempt.
- Only a VAT-registered business may charge VAT. Registration is mandatory above SAR 375,000 of taxable supplies over 12 months and voluntary from SAR 187,500.

How to calculate 15% VAT in Saudi Arabia
Saudi VAT is charged at 15% of the value of the supply excluding VAT. That is the rule set out in ZATCA's guideline issued when the rate rose to 15% on 1 July 2020, and every calculation below starts from it.
Adding VAT to a net price. VAT = net × 0.15. Gross = net × 1.15. On a phone calculator, type the net price and multiply it by 1.15.
Removing VAT from a gross amount. VAT = gross × 15/115, the exact formula in ZATCA's guideline. Net = gross ÷ 1.15, or gross minus the VAT.
Rounding. The calculator rounds the VAT to the halala (SAR 0.01) and derives the other figure by subtraction. Net plus VAT therefore always equals the gross total, with no one-halala gap.

Table 1
| Operation | Amount entered | VAT | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Add VAT | SAR 1,000 net | 1,000 × 0.15 = SAR 150 | SAR 1,150 gross |
| Add VAT | SAR 35,000 net (monthly invoice) | SAR 5,250 | SAR 40,250 gross |
| Add VAT, with rounding | SAR 99.99 net | 14.9985 rounded to SAR 15.00 | SAR 114.99 gross |
| Remove VAT | SAR 200 gross (ZATCA example) | 200 × 15/115 = SAR 26.09 | SAR 173.91 net |
| Remove VAT | SAR 1,000 gross | SAR 130.43 | SAR 869.57 net |
| Remove VAT | SAR 11,500 gross | SAR 1,500 | SAR 10,000 net |
Two common mistakes when you start from a gross price
Zero-rated and exempt supplies: when VAT is not 15%
The standard rate is the rule, but the VAT Implementing Regulations list zero-rated and exempt supplies. Do not use the calculator for either.
Table 2
| Case | VAT on the invoice | Examples from the Implementing Regulations | Basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard rate | 15% | Most goods and services, including food and drinks | ZATCA VAT page |
| Zero-rated | 0%, and the supplier recovers VAT on its purchases | Exports outside the GCC, services to non-GCC residents under conditions, international transport of goods and passengers, qualifying medicines and medical goods, investment gold, silver and platinum of at least 99% purity | Articles 31 to 36 |
| Exempt | No VAT, and VAT paid on related purchases cannot be recovered | Financial services paid through an implicit margin (not an explicit fee), life insurance, sale of real estate, residential lease | Articles 29 and 30 |
When does your business have to charge VAT?
Before adding 15% to your invoices, your company must be registered with ZATCA. The test uses taxable supplies over the last 12 months, or those expected over the next 12.
Table 3
| Taxable supplies over 12 months | Position |
|---|---|
| Above SAR 375,000 | Registration mandatory |
| SAR 187,500 to 375,000 | Voluntary registration possible |
| Below SAR 187,500 | Registration not available |

Frequently asked questions
What is the standard VAT rate in Saudi Arabia?
15%, in force since 1 July 2020; it was 5% before that. The rate is unchanged as of October 2026, and ZATCA's VAT page still lists 15%.
How do you calculate 15% VAT on an amount?
Multiply the net price by 0.15 to get the VAT, or by 1.15 to get the total including VAT. For example, SAR 1,000 × 1.15 = SAR 1,150, of which SAR 150 is VAT.
How do you calculate the VAT portion of a gross price?
Multiply the gross amount by 15 and divide by 115. ZATCA's example: 200 × 15/115 = SAR 26.09 of VAT, leaving SAR 173.91 net. Taking 15% of the gross amount overstates the VAT.
Are all goods and services taxed at 15%?
No. Exports outside the GCC, international transport, qualifying medicines and medical goods and investment metals are zero-rated. Some financial services, life insurance, real estate sales and residential rent are exempt. A chartered accountant should confirm the treatment of each supply.
Can an unregistered company charge VAT?
No. Only a business registered with ZATCA may add VAT to its invoices, and doing so without registration can lead to a fine of up to SAR 100,000. Registration becomes mandatory above SAR 375,000 of taxable supplies over 12 months.
Is this calculator official?
No. It is an independent tool that applies the formulas ZATCA publishes. ZATCA has its own Merchant and Consumer VAT Calculator on its website, and both give the same result at 15%.
